Good Taste - Bad Taste - Custard Creams.

As my ongoing mission to find something exciting to talk about now reaches it forth week, something very strange has happened.

I lost something.

Something I never thought I would lose.

We are not talking about keys or a book, here.

I am always losing bets as we already know - I am rubbish at gambling!

I hardly ever win an argument and as for the small round lump that medical types call a beer belly.... the least said the better.

But this week I lost something I never thought, in my wildest dreams, I would lose.

I didn't even think it WAS possible to lose the thing that I lost. But lost it I did.

Sunday morning found me sat on my chair building myself up for the day ahead. I had already seen the Ferret man (not a weird superhero, but a man who owns ferrets and is going to get rid of all the feral rabbits round my way) and I sat back down to enjoy a cup of tea.... when it happened.

I took a sip of my brew and suddenly realised .... I don't like tea anymore.

For more years than I care to remember I have always enjoyed a cup of tea. So much so that only drink from a pint pot - like a proper man.

But Sunday gave the realisation that my mouth and my brain have different ideas on what is nice and what is not.

Instead of getting that warm, sweet taste from each sip of drink, I was left with an indescribable, almost instinctive need to spit it out.... and so I did.

I wish they had told me earlier, before I had bought a massive box of tea bags to get through December with.

Luckily I have an emergency stash of fruit teas in the house and so I have been enjoying the fresh sweet flavours of Cranberry, Mango and Pineapple or Peppermint teas for most of this week.

I am now left in a very bizarre state as I am no longer able to trust my own body.

Do I still like custard creams, for example?

What about grapes or toast or my own earwax um... other things.....?

Strange days.

I just don't know who I am any more and this may have extreme consequences in the weeks to come.....

  1. I drink a lot of tea Mr H and I like it, sometimes I like it less than other times and sometimes I do think. . . I did not really enjoy that cup of tea one bit.. . . . What I have come to realize over the years is that almost every cup of tea is unique and can be affected by the water, the kettle, the tea bag or various other things these days or just how you are feeling at the time. There are in fact a myriad of possible variations that can make that cup of tea the best thing since sliced bread (of which I am not a fan) or something that the three witches in Macbeth would serve to their worst enemy, who I am lead to believe was the inventor of sliced bread. Which is why dunking sliced bread in a cup of tea is not something often done in public these days.

All I can say is dont give up on the cup of tea yet because you might think in the near future. . . . . you know what I really fancy a cup of tea and it will be a really good one.

I was a tea blender once and there are about nineteen different teas in a teabag. and each brand will be a little different to the others. Although the chap I worked for had a habit of repacking the returned out of date tea in a new box with a new sell by date on it and then sending it back out. . . . . .Maybe the tea you had was from him, I dont know what he is doing these days but supplying dodgy tea is a distinct possibility. . . . . I am off to drink a mug of Cocoa now so . . . . . . . . . .
